train journeys and folios

I got my first folio assessment back this morning - a distinction for painting! I'm very excited about this, because out of all my subjects, painting is my worst. A distinction!

I left early today, and had to run for the train. I was carrying armloads of paintings, and the run was uphill.

So when I finally sat down in the train, I was red and sweaty, puffing and dizzy.

So the last thing I expected was for the guy in the seat in front to turn around and start chatting me up. I must have looked hideous, with sweat pouring down my face, and I couldn't hear what he was saying, because my own breathing was so loud.

He had to repeat everything he said twice because of this. Any normal person would give up and leave the sweaty shaky girl alone.

After a few minutes, he said "Are you still puffed?"

"No. Just hot", I answered.

There was a pause. Up until this point, I thought he was just being friendly - he'd done art himself, so was just asking what we were doing at the moment, and what I liked the best.

Then he came out with "I could say something there, but I won't."

I just laughed nervously, and hoped that my uncomfortable looking around at the scenery out the window would give him the message.

It must have, because his next question was "And what does your partner do?"

Thank God for that- I started rambling about Brian.

Funnily enough, he wasn't interested in my art after that.......
