Ernie's usual routine in the morning is to shriek loudly while I get his pureed food ("apple" - even if it's not apple) and pour it into his white dish, and zap it in the microwave for 10 seconds. I forgot to get his food from the freezer last night, and so there was none ready to heat this morning when Brian got up before me. He finds a couple of peaches on top of the fridge, and purees them for Ernie instead. Ernie's hopping in his cage frantically, screeching and saying "Apple? Apple?" He gets let out, flies to his bowl, takes a drink and then starts crying out angrily (he has a special angry noise that sounds exactly like "Oh! Oh NO!"). He hopped off the edge of the bowl, hopped away, still saying "Oh! Oh NO!" THEN, he goes and stands in FRONT of the microwave, imitating the usual 'beep' 'beeeeeeep' noise that it makes as it finishes cooking. Standing there, saying "Beep! Beeeeeeeeeeep!" and "Apple?" Finally, after being ignored by Brian long enough, he returns to the bowl, takes another sip and decides he likes it after all (he just didn't like it on principle, that it was something different) and made his approving "Ohhhhhh!" noise (I'm serious, he says that when he likes something!) and continued to guzzle it down like he usually does. I have the coolest bird in the world.
