my week

Want to know what I did in art this week (week 15 of the semester)? Leave now if this sounds as though it will be boring.

I made a big spider web in my area. I used silver thread and anchored the threads to both my chair and my easel. And now I can't move either. And I put my easel in front of my exit path, so every time I want to get in or out of my space I have to suck in and duck. Since then people have referred to me as 'spiderwoman'. My teacher Stephen backed away from me, saying "you might try to mate with me, and then bite my head off...."

I finished my clay head. It is now a burned orange colour, with a coccoon type thing wrapping around it. (Photo here).

I finished three paintings. One an abstract acrylic, which speaks to me of some kind of organic being, but I'm not sure what. It's greys and yellows/oranges and black.

Another is a ground of splashed and smudged paint, with a charcoal free, loose, messy figure drawing over the top.

The third was a painting of a palm tree outside the 'Hangar' (our art studio). It sits in a neutral background, with the words "It is Autumn of 2004. The sun is shining. I am 22 years old. I am living. I live. And I am painting. One day I will discover perfection."

And I spent a hell of a long time wondering how I can possibly create a sculpture about the little boy we lost at work, all those months ago. I don't know if I can do it.

That was my week up until today. What was yours?
